Well-appointed Darkstar Linux has a dark side
By Mayank Sharma on February 06, 2008 "Darkstar Linux 2008.1 is one of the first stable distro releases of the year. This distribution from Romania is based on Slackware and is available as a DVD image. For a desktop-oriented distro with its first release in 2004, Darkstar Linux has a lot of scope for improvement; its rock-solid performance and range of applications is overshadowed by its poor hardware skills."Darkstar Linux 2008.1 is one of the first stable distro releases of the year. First look at Zenwalk Linux 5.0 (by Susan Linton)
2008-02-11 "I'm really impressed with the progress Zenwalk Linux has made in the last 18 months. It has become a great looking system that works really well overall. It's full-featured while remaining light and fast. I don't see any reason why even a newcomer couldn't enjoy running this system as is, but I'd really like to see Nano replace Vi for them." SAM Linux Desktop shows promise by Preston St. Pierre
2008-02-12 "SAM Linux Desktop, an Xfce-fronted distribution based on PCLinuxOS, aims to be a complete and modern desktop operating system. Though it has problems that need to be worked out before it will match the competition, it offers an easy install, a 3-D desktop environment, and a flurry of programs to suit your needs. Technology: Fluxbuntu: User-friendly Featherweight Linux?
2008-02-12 "Fluxbuntu bundles a relatively complete desktop experience in ultra-light package. Those with significant Linux experience under their belts might find the operating system to be a miracle that brings their older machines out of the graveyard and back to life. Another good place for Fluxbuntu - and one where I think it is currently more appropriately suited than the desktop, due to its limitations - might be on a home server, where you don't want all the extras included in Ubuntu, but still want a GUI interface instead of a commandline-only machine.

Vector Linux 5.9: Light, fast Slackware-based distro
2008-02-13 by TuxMachines "Vector Linux 5.9, released in late December of last year, is a Slackware 12.0-based distribution that uses Xfce 4.4.2 as its default user interface ("UI"). Generally speaking, Xfce requires less horsepower than other UIs, like GNOME and KDE, and so Vector Linux ("VL" for short) bills itself as an excellent operating system to install on older, lower-powered computers."
